The Spashtawadi Sahyogi Maitri Sangh (SSMS), is a large and well-known grassroots, non-profit, non-governmental organization working all over India, Bhutan and Nepal. More than an organization, we like to see ourselves as a people's movement.

The SSMS believes that Science and Technology (S&T) has the potential to empower people. SSMS specialized in Health, Hygiene, Food nutrition, and Agriculture information/training had built a marvelous common facility center for tanning cum production. This common facility center monitors and assess the capacity of communities to meet their food and nutrition needs for a better understanding of linkages between nutrition, agriculture, health, and community including quality of life.

The common facility centers of SSMS promote activities to facilitate/support livelihood through programmes are:

Mushroom cultivation;(Better nutrition and quick income in lowest expense)
Vermi-compost ;(Recycling of baste of mushroom bag and household garbage)

LEGAL AID AND ACTION: provision of legal aid services to the deprived sections of the society including women, action oriented research, help to dowry-tortured women, and prohibition of forceful prostitution.

Implemented Pilot Project of UNICEF for Arsenic Mitigation, TSC, and Eco Sanitation with following activities:

Conducted Village level meetings involving people to share the information about the arsenic contamination in groundwater in Gangetic belt.
All doctors, health workers, schools’ teachers & students will be shared the information about the arsenic contamination and its health impacts and will be trained on water quality monitoring and promotion of safe water options.
Conducted meeting with community sharing the test results and emphasizing the need for use of arsenic free sources for drinking purpose and suggest mitigation options.
Protected and maintain openwells in villages involving dewatering, cleaning, chlorination, covering, providing proper drainage, lining and a connecting handpump as a source of arsenic free water. The openwell sources will be regularly disinfected and tested for microbiological contamination by H2S vials.
Provided new sanitary wells in the affected villages.
Provided Rain Water Harvesting structures in 4 schools as an additional source of arsenic free water supply.
Community mobilization for adopting the arsenic free sources for drinking and cooking.
Developed water quality surveillance system involving teachers and PRI for water sample testing for all parameters.
Promoted Swajaldhara TSC and Eco-Sanitation in villages.
Base line data on toilet coverage, total no of families, water and sanitation facilities in school and Anganwadi, water facilities in the village.
Preparation of annual action plan clear cut indicating the output (i.e. number of individual household toilet constructed in every month, water supply scheme taken under Swajaldhara, no. of families using the toilet and practicing the hygiene behavior etc).
